"All About" Life as an English-teaching Expat!

I went to Spain in January of 2013 to work as an English language and culture assistant in a high school. I spent one course and a half assisting in a high school in Mairena del Aljarafe (Sevilla), and one course assisting at a high school in Écija. (In Spain, high school is combined with Jr. High, so I was teaching 11-18-year olds.) I also worked as an English teacher in a couple academies after school, where I taught kids from 2-years old, all the way to adults who were studying for their First Certificate exams (FCE). I had 4-year olds, 8-year olds, 10-year olds, and of course, more high schoolers. Each group was a different experience, each student a personality of their own. All the experiences were unique, all of them drove me crazy in one way or another, and I walked away crying from almost all of them at the end of the year because I'd grown to love my students so much and would miss them. That's life.

Hopefully something you find here will help you determine if going abroad to teach English is the right choice for you, and give you a little insight as to what life abroad as an expat is like! :)
